Dr. Marti Bornstein
Dr. Marti Bornstein’s education and career path bring together a variety of interests and expertise. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University, she became a research organic chemist for Bristol Myers working in the field of Anti-Tumoral Chemistry. She then obtained her teaching credentials and taught Earth Science, Biology, and Physics in public high school, and eventually earned a Masters degree in Science Education, also from Syracuse University. In 1992 she decided to fulfill her life-long dream to be a doctor and entered medical school at Upstate Medical University in New York. In 2000, she completed her residency training in Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Rochester. Choosing the speciality of Obstetrics and Gynecology was directly linked to her own medical experiences as a patient-none of which were pleasant-endometriosis, infertility, and a pregnancy loss. These challenges gave her a unique understanding of the patients’ perspective and as well as the necessary compassion to make her an outstanding physician. Before retiring due to a disability, she had delivered more than one thousand babies!
Working as a scientist, teacher, and physician makes Marti uniquely qualified to be a Nested Instructor. Her passion is to educate others – high school and medical school students, OB/GYN residentsresidents, and especially parents. Her commitment to helping women and future parents empower themselves and make healthy and informed care management decisions is her goal. The love of her craft, her zeal for patient empowerment through knowledge, and her outgoing, caring and compassionate personality are all evident in her role as a Nested Instructor. Being a recipient of scholarships and grants for all of her degrees, she feels that giving back to the community by educating others is just another way to “pay it forward.”
