Medical Mission Manager, Project Nido

Serena is a senior at Yorktown High School and has been a core member of Project Nido throughout her high school years. Now in her third year, she serves as the Medical Mission Manager, overseeing logistics for 40 U.S. volunteers and coordinating with more than 100 local staff and clinicians at a hospital in Ecuador.

Her responsibilities include managing inventory, writing grants, organizing volunteer spreadsheets, creating Spanish-language educational materials, and ensuring the safety of younger team members. She also leads social media outreach and documents family portraits for local patients.

Serena received the Leadership and Service Award for 2025. Over three years, she has helped collect and donate more than 500 toothbrush kits and raised over $7,500 to support Project Nido’s mission. Serena brings compassion, focus, and a strong sense of purpose to every part of her work.
